Jewellery & Watches › This Is Not Too Good To Be True
Independent market research by the BBC’s The One Show found that Ramsdens Got Gold Get Cash paid over four times more than others do online and Ramsdens own market research reinforces The One Show’s findings.
Ramsdens invest much time and effort into mystery shopping our competitors. This ensures that we can advertise our prices with confidence.
The price comparisons shown are from actual mystery shops which are undertaken periodically by Ramsdens.
Ramsdens are proud to offer you excellent service, a great price for your gold with our unique price guarantee. This means that you can relax, knowing that you are getting the best price for your gold, from the name that you can trust, Ramsdens.
Beware of other gold buyers that do not quote a price online... would you buy something without knowing the price? Then don’t sell your gold without knowing how much you will get for it. This theory was reinforced by a recent investigation by consumer magazine Which?
Which? found that CashMyGold, PostalGold Money4Gold and Cash4Gold paid only a tiny proportion of the value of the gold.
Beware of some gold buyers that quote the price of gold online but not actually the price that they will pay for the gold. Some gold buyers only quote an ‘estimated’ price or even that day’s market price for gold, this is extremely misleading. The price that Ramsdens quote is the price that we will pay, guaranteed (unless the price of gold increases in which case we will pay you more!). If someone is offering to pay you close to spot price for your gold, you need to ask yourself, how? How do they cover their business costs and expenses?

Cash For My Gold
We received a cheque from Cash For My Gold five days after we had sent in our gold. There was no offer, they assumed that we would simply accept their cheque and very poor amount at £2.03 a gram, this company scored 3/10 for service levels by our mystery shopper.
The Money Shop
Although the Money Shop looks like it advertises the price that it pays on their website, beware: the calculator says ‘your gold COULD be worth’. In this mystery shop Ramsdens were paid the amount advertised but it took over 2 weeks for the cheque to arrive and there was no communication from The Money Shop. Our mystery shopper scored The Money Shop a substandard 5/10.
Guardian Jewellery
A cheque was received from Guardian Jewellery within 2 days, however the amount paid was £2.73 per gram. There was no communication from Guardian, unlike Ramsdens who email you every step of the way. Due to this our mystery shopper only scored the Guardian 3/10.
Monster Price For Gold
This company refused to buy Ramsdens mystery shoppers gold stating at first that it wasn’t gold and then back tracking when pushed by saying that they couldn’t buy in a small amount. Ramsdens will buy in any amount of gold and it doesn’t matter the condition of the gold either. Due to this our mystery shopper scored Monster Price For Gold 1/10 – they could not tell our gold was gold!
Postal Gold
Postalgold.com took five days to send a cheque for our gold. There was no communication from postal gold and they did not make our mystery shopper an offer, instead a tiny £1.68 was paid for our gold. Ramsdens mystery shopper rated postal gold 2/10 for their lack of customer service.
Cash My Gold
Cash My Gold sent a cheque to our mystery shopper two days after the gold was sent, however no communication was made with our shopper, instead a cheque was sent for a very low £1.23 per gram of 9ct gold. Ramsdens mystery shopper scored Cash My Gold a below average 2/10 for the transaction.
Post Gold For Cash
Post Gold For Cash compare themselves with other gold buyers online, but you may wish to ask; why do they not compare themselves with Ramsdens? That’s because Ramsdens pay a better price for your gold!
An offer was made by Post Gold For Cash the day after the gold was sent, however this offer was for £2.92 a gram and the person calling to make the offer was uncertain and made the Ramsdens mystery shopper feel uneasy. Due to this Post Gold For Cash scored 3/10.
Cash 4 My Gold
Cash 4 My Gold called with an offer the day after the gold was sent, however this was only for £3.33 a gram, which is less than 50% less than what their online calculator says that they will pay. When Ramsdens mystery shopper questioned the amount offered they were informed that Cash 4 My Gold pays LESS if the gold is not hallmarked but the gold from Ramsdens was hallmarked. Ramsdens pay the same amount for all gold, whether it is hallmarked or not. Ramsdens mystery shopper scored Cash 4 My Gold 3/10.
Gold Buyer Man

My Gold Sold claim to be Britain’s most trusted gold buyer, however our mystery shopper did not agree. Our mystery shopper found that My Gold Sold would not buy in their gold and that if they wanted the gold returning it would cost £25! The mystery shopper was not called but an email was sent. Because of this terrible customer service Ramsdens mystery shopper scored My Gold Sold an unacceptable 1/10.
Money 4 Gold
Money 4 Gold paid our mystery shopper a very low amount of £1.68 per gram of 9 carat gold. Money 4 Gold made the assumption that the cheque would be sufficient as no offer was made.
